主讲人介绍:王进,男,1998年和2000年分别本科和硕士毕业于中国科学技术大学,2004年在俄亥俄州立大学获得博士学位,之后留校任校一年,2005年至2007年在杜克大学任助理研究教授,2007年在奥多明尼奥大学先后任助理教授、副教授。2014年加入田纳西大学查塔努加分校担任教授(UNUM Chair of Excellence in Applied Mathematics)。主要研究方向是生物数学、数值分析和计算流体力学,在Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci. USA, Canad. Appl. Math. Quart., J. Comput. Phys., Math. Biosci.等重要学术期刊发表论文八十多篇,并主持美国国家科学基金会、美国国立卫生研究院等多项研究基金。

内容介绍:This talk, with graduate students as the target audience, will provide an introduction for mathematical modeling, analysis and simulation of cholera transmission dynamics. Cholera is a severe waterborne infection that remains a significant public health burden in developing countries. The transmission of cholera includes both direct and indirect routes that may involve complex biological, environmental and socioeconomic factors. We will first present and analyze several simple cholera models, which are based on differential equations, to illustrate their dynamical properties and biological interpretations. We will next consider numerical simulation of cholera dynamics, with application to disease control and outbreak management. We will additionally discuss a few extensions to the basic cholera modeling framework.
